I’ve known and worked with Keyanus Price for about 15 years. I was her senior for many years when we both worked at an international, high-tech marketing firm. In my opinion, she is one of the most honorable, ethical, hardworking, intelligent individuals I’ve every worked with.
This fiasco with the Mayor of Los Alamitos sending this e-mail postcard (see below) to her and others is an abomination.
The shameful actions on the part of Los Alamitos Mayor, Dean Grose, came under fire for emailing his African-American city volunteer, Keyanus Price, an offensive e-card.
Mayor Dean Grose’s e-card below, was titled “No Easter egg hunt this year.”
“I have had plenty of my share of “chicken and watermelon” and all those kinds of jokes,” Ms. Price told The Associated Press.
The southern California mayor says he will resign at a City Council meeting. Los Alamitos, Calif., Mayor Dean Grose also apologized last week after pressure mounted from the email he sent to Ms. Price and others.
Initially, he told Ms. Price that she needed to learn how to laugh at a joke, which angered Price even more. Once the public got a glimpse of his transmission, he was in the hot seat. He started backing up fast, trying to keep a lid on his faux pas. Grose has said he didn’t mean to offend anyone and claimed he was unaware of the racial stereotype linking Black people with eating watermelons. Unaware? You’ve got to be kidding me. This was done intentionally with malice aforethought. Grose knew exactly what he was doing. His flimsy justification and mealy mouth explanations just don’t cut it. Kick the bum out!
In my opinion the least that Mayor Grose could do is resign, which I understand he has done. I’m proud of Keyanus for standing up for her beliefs and for bringing it to national attention.
